MEELAL denounces Education Minister's statement

Meetei Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) has expressed shock over the Education Minister's recent statement wherein he said that measures will be taken up to change 'Meetei Mayek' into 'Manipuri Mayek'.
MEELAL in a press note strongly denounced the statement and termed it as an uncultured act and is a disgrace to the forefathers who have made umpteen sacrifices for the upliftment of 'Meetei Mayek'.
MEELAL maintained that such a statement shows the ignorance of the Minister in context with the history of the native language of the State.
Throwing light on how Meetei Mayek has been developed to the current status, MEELAL said that it is due to the continuous efforts of representatives of expert committees in consultation with the State Government. However the Education Minister seems to have little knowledge about such a process which is really unfortunate, added the press note.
Urging the Minister to take up sincere efforts for the upliftment of Meetei Mayek rather than making irresponsible statements in public, the language body appealed to the Minister to refrain from making such statements in future which may harm the importance of the language.
