Legal awareness programme held

District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Tamenglong in association with Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) and under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) on Monday organised an online legal awareness programme on the topic "Free & Fair Election."
The programme was attended by PLVs, members of NGOs/CSOs, and women organisations of Tamenglong, said a release issued by DLSA Tamenglong.
Speaking on the occasion, Aribam Guneshwar Sharma, MJS, District & Sessions Judge, Imphal West cum Chairman DLSA, Tamenglong stated that every person above the age of 18 years has the right to vote without any discrimination of caste, race, religion, sex, etc.
"All eligible voters have been given the right to elect their representative for every five years without any coercion, fraud, misrepresentation and undue influence from any quarter", he asserted.
Resource person, Ch Momon, Advocate & member MASLSA highlighted the relevant provisions of the Representation of People Act, 1951 and the Indian Penal Code.
He also spoke on powers and functions of Election Commission of India, State Election  Commission and other functionaries.
To ensure free and fair elections, the resource person further appealed to the participants to not sell their rights to vote and instead to choose an efficient candidate for the welfare of the society.
