IMPHAL, Dec 23: The graduation day celebration of the 2016 batch BDS students of the Dental College, RIMS, Imphal was held today at the Jubilee Hall of the institution.
The function was graced by Manipur Chief Secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar and RIMS Director Professor A Santa as  the chief guest and president respectively.
While delivering his speech, Rajesh Kumar stressed on the need for pursuing higher degrees and acquiring newer techniques in the career of dentistry.
He asked the students of the Dental College who graduated today to further pursue the related Master's degree in the future rather than considering earning money instantly.
Saying that dentistry has ample scopes for future, Rajesh Kumar emphasized on the importance of understanding the vital knowledge of medical science while practicing the profession.
The Chief Secretary also asked the passed out students to do some charitable work for the poor people.
Addressing the gathering, Professor Santa underscored the need for harnessing the cognitive and communication skills to understand the sentiment of the patient's party and dealing with them while carrying out medical and similar professions.
He appealed to the passed out students to be empathetic towards the patients and patients party.
Maintaining that acquiring knowledge and expertise in one’s profession is quite important, the Director advised the dentistry students to work for the home soil even after they had supposedly earned maximum knowledge by working abroad.
Addressing the function, Dental College, RIMS Principal stated that exercising discipline is fundamental in dentistry and other professions.
He also appealed to the students to further expand their knowledge through attending workshops and seminars related to the profession.
Taking oath and issuance of certificates and mementos to the BDS passed out students were the main highlights of the programme.
Several awards were also given to the best mark scorers in the final examination of BDS at the Dental College.
