Manipur through to Sr Women's NFC semis with 2-0 win over Assam

IMPHAL, Dec 5 : Manipur advanced to the semi-finals of Senior Women's National Football Championship with a 2-0 win over Assam today at the Municipal Stadium, Kuthuparamba, Kerala.
Manipur, who finished Group A winners with landslide victories dominated the quarter final clash against Group C winners Assam in both scoring chances and possession today and a goal each on either side of the break was more than enough for the team to advance to semis.
It was Yangoijam Kiranbala Chanu who struck the opener after 9 minutes to help Manipur enjoy a slender 1-0 first half lead before Thingbaijam Babysana Devi doubled the lead in the 65th minute.
Elsewhere, Mizoram defeated Maharashtra 4-1 to set up a semi-final date with Manipur.
Elizabeth Vanlalmawii (10', 87') and Lalnunsiami (24', 66') scored two goals apiece for Mizoram in this one sided encounter while the lone goal of Maharashtra was scored by Karen Pais in the 47th minute.
Railways also booked the semi-final ticket with a 4-2 thumping of Goa at Calicut Medical College, Kozhikode as Supriya Routray scored a hattrick (45+1', 56', 58') and Mamta added a single in the 69th minute.
Meanwhile, both the goals for Goa were scored by Sushmita Jadhav (33', 90+1').
Railways will meet Odisha, who outlasted Tamil Nadu 2-0 in another quarter final match at EMS Corporation Stadium, Kozhikode.
Karishma Oram was first to find the net in the 27th minute before Satyabati Khadia scored the decisive goal in the 37th minute.
