IMPHAL, Dec 5 : SROY, Singjamei amassed 32 gold, 19 silver and 18 bronze medals to claim overall team champions honour in the 41st State Age Group Athletics Championship which concluded today.
The overall team champions were awarded a cash prize of Rs 10,000 sponsored by Athletic Association of Manipur president, L Sarat in memory of his father, L Birchandra.
Heirok Athletic Union (HAU) bagged the overall runners up title and a cash prize of Rs 6,000 as they sealed 11 gold, 16 silver and 15 bronze medals in the championship organised by Athletic Association of Manipur at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium from December 3.
SAI Recreation Club (SAI-RC), meanwhile, finished overall second runners up with a total of 9 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze medals to settle for a cash prize of Rs 4,000.
The valedictory function of the championship was graced by social worker Elangbam Sobin Singh; Youth Affairs and Sports Director, T Phulen; president of Athletic Association of Manipur; social worker, W Bhim; ex-international swimmer, Th Thouba; social worker, Haobijam Sarat Singh as dignitaries who also gave away prizes to the winning athletics units and individuals.
Last Day events
L Mangansana of SAI-RC was the best in the men's high jump event as he soared 1.68 m for the top honour. SROY's Th Imocha and Nimaichand Akham finished second and third in this event with 1.65 m and 1.60 m jumps respectively.
W Junita of SAI-RC fetched the U-20 girls high jump title with a best jump of 1.30 m. Other gold medal winners in the high jump events are Md Mustaque of LSA (U-20 boys : 1.55 m); l Appu of HAU (U-18 boys : 1.45 m); Md Aziz of LSA (U-16 boys : 1.50 m); N Boboy of HAU (U-14 boys : 1.54 m).
Discus Throw
MSC's Alson Singh bagged the men's discus throw registering 45.05 m. T Nanao Singh of SROY (35.20 m) and M Shanta of MPSC (28.72 m) finished second and third in this event. Sahid Akhter of LSA won the U-16 boys title with the best throw of 31.18 m; Adison Huidrom of FUC won the U-18 boys title with a throw of 33.75 m and H Shijtaljit Singh of SROY win the U-20 boys title recording 37.19 m throw.
Women's discus throw title went to N Ichantombi of SROY who threw best 23.66 m while HAU's L Roshni of HAU (9.84 m) and T Ophelia (17.53 m) bagged U-16 girls and U-18 girls titles.
100 m race
M Alken of SROY won the Men's open 100 m race clocking 11.29 seconds and his compatriot Letjakai Khongsai finished second with a 11.48 seconds finish. L Mangalsana of SAI on the other hand won the third place with a time of 11.56 seconds. Winning top places in the other age groups are, M Bikash of MMC (U-16 boys : 11.47 seconds); Daud Khan of FUC (U-18 boys 11.33 seconds) and Ramavath Harilal of PRSC (U-20 : 11.29 seconds).
MPSC swept the women's 100 m race as S Rebita emerged on top with 15.02 seconds followed by A Surbala (15.34 seconds) and Th Radhesana (15.86 seconds).
L Yaishana of SROY ran 12.62 seconds to claim the U-20 girls 100 m title before Ch Naocha (14.96 seconds) and A Anjita (13.53 seconds) of the same unit claimed U-18 girls and U-16 girls titles.
Javelin U-18
P Shrivas of HAU claimed the U-18 javelin throw title as he recorded a 44 metre throw which was well farther than N Rohit of KNSAA (35.69 m) and S Arunkumar of SYPO (32.45 m).
Relay race
FUC team won the 4x100 m men open relay title with a time of 45.06 seconds, which was ahead of SAI (45.06 sec) and SROY (45.09 sec).
SROY, however, earned the 4x400 m title taking 3 minutes 34.32 seconds. SAI (3:37.05) and HYC (4:04.79) finished second and third in this competition.
