IMPHAL, Feb 11 : SSU Singjamei, YUFC Ukhrul and ESU Wangkhei prevailed in today's matches of the ongoing 11th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial State Level Open Football Tournament at SAI, Sports Complex at Takyel.
In the first match of the day, SSU registered a convincing 3-0 win over NESU Khurai.
Th Premijit netted the opener in the 28th minute to give the Singjamei side a 1-0 lead. Karbiraj doubled the SSU's lead in extra time of the first half.
Though NESU made a desperate attempt in the second half of the game to comeback, their effort went astray as Sushilkumar found a loophole in the opponent's defence and scored another in the 75th minute.
The second match saw YUFC, Ukhrul defeat YUC, Irom Meijrao 5-4 via a penalty, following a 1-1 draw in the normal time.
In this nail biting match, Peimingam's 80th minute goal gave the Ukhrul team a glimpse of hope of taking home the win, but their celebration didn't last long as Topper of YUC drew level the scoreboard to 1-1 in the additional time (80+4').
In the shoot-out, YUFC beat YUC 5-4 with a little help of luck.
Peimingam, Blesising, Kagaly and Yami were the scorers for YUFC in the penalty.
The last match of the day was played between ESU Wangkhei and FC Lamjao at the same venue, wherein the former thrashed their opponent 4-1 to advance into the next.
ESU's Thumson Tongsin proved his mettle in this game as he struck two goals (37' and 62') while his compatriots H Sanajaoba (40') and Sh Rajdan (75') netted a goal each. The lone goal of the losing side was scored by Yaiphaba in the 47th minute.
