IMPHAL, Feb 11 : Continuing with the demand that 12 MLAs who earlier held posts of Parliamentary Secretaries should be disqualified, Congress workers held a protest at ABA ground, Kshetri Bengoon road today.
The protest demonstration was organised by Kshetrigao Block Congress Committee and was attended by various leaders including ex-MLA Amin Shah.
Speaking to reporters, Amin Shah said that the High Court of Manipur had passed a judgement last year which ruled that the appointment of the 12 MLAs as Parliamentary Secretaries is invalid and unconstitutional.
Congress submitted representations to the Governor and the Election Commission to take up necessary actions following the verdict.
Although the Congress party has been working hard to uphold the democratic principles of the Nation and protect the sanctity of the Constitution, there has been no response to the representations submitted earlier to the Governor and ECI, which is rather unfortunate for all sections of the societym said Amin Shah.
All the 12 MLAs should resign from the State Assembly on moral ground as it has become clear that the post of Parliamentary Secretary is a 'post of profit', he added.
Congress workers held placards questioning 'when the ECI will disqualify the 12 MLAs and 'save India, save Manipur from BJP' at the protest demonstration.
