IMPHAL, Feb 11: Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Yumnam Khemchand has appealed to all Members of the House to submit written complaints to the Assembly Secretariat if any Government official is not showing due respect to them.
Supplementing an observation made by K Meghachandra in the course of discussing a demand for grant pertaining to Community and Rural Development, Y Khemchand asserted that it is intolerable if Government officials are not showing due respect to MLAs.
He then appealed to all MLAs to send written complaints to the Assembly Secretariat if any Government official challenges their (MLAs) privileges.
K Meghachandra suggested creation of a WhatsApp group or any other similar platform so that all Members of the House can get instant information on PMGSY works.
After appointing a nodal officer, officials concerned should be made members of such a group in addition to the Minister concerned and the Chief Minister, he said.
In the absence of such a platform, MLAs have been deprived of all the information on PMGSY works.
Even if phone calls were made to engineers, the calls were not picked up. At the same time, it is ignominious for MLAs to go to engineers for obtaining information on PMGSY works, Meghachandra said.
At this point, the Speaker interrupted and appealed to all Members of the House to send written complaints to the Assembly Secretariat if any Government official challenges the privilege of MLAs.
