Training begins

IMPHAL, Feb 6 : A 2-day training of trainers on counselling and resource mobilisation on psychoactive substance use began today at the main auditorium of Manipur State Film Development Society (MFDS), Palace Compound.
The programme being organised under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was inaugurated by Ngangom Uttam Singh, Social Welfare Director.
At the inaugural function, Uttam highlighted the significance of treating psychoactive substance use as a mental illness and the need to seek help and treatment accordingly.  
He said that the Department of Social Welfare has recently framed the Manipur State Policy on Psychoactive Substance 2019 to strengthen the Government's endeavour towards prevention of psychoactive substance use.
The local clubs, being the torch bearers in respect of the welfare and development of the locality, would be the best resource in prevention of psychoactive substance use in their respective locality, he opined.
He further stated that the department had organised a workshop on psychoactive substance and welfare schemes on January 8 last at City Convention Centre to make the State's war on drugs campaign productive.
In the technical session, resource person, Dr Senjam Gojendra, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, RIMS,  spoke on "Psychological impact on drug use-short term and long term; "Psychological intervention -individual counselling, group counselling, family therapy etc" and Psycho-social intervention for psychoactive substance use."
