IMPHAL, Mar 18: An accidental fire ravaged a dwelling house and gutted two rooms on the top floor at around 12.10 pm at Telipati, Imphal East today.
The damaged house which has two storeys belongs to one Lalu Prasad Yadav (70).
Manipur Fire Service pressed five fire tenders into action and successfully brought the fire under control before it could spread to neighbouring houses/structures.
Officials of Manipur Fire Service said that they suspected the fire was sparked by electric short circuit.
It is said that properties worth around Rs five lakh were destroyed by the fire.              
On the other hand, a vast area of Nongmaiching Hills  was charred after some unidentified persons burnt a section of the hill range for jhum cultivation last night.
Manipur Fire Service personnel, volunteers/devotees of Achiba Laiphamlen and people of the surrounding areas managed to bring the raging fire under control late last night, sources informed.
