IMPhal, Mar 21
Expressing the need for a retrial at a higher Court following the recent acquittal of former ADC Chairman, Lhukhosei Zou and those involved in the Phoudel drug case, the All Manipur Women’s Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj) in collaboration with various Ima Lups and local clubs, jointly staged sit-in protests at Haobam Marak, Yaingangpkpi and Kamong today.
Addressing media persons at the protest staged at Haobam Marak Keisham Leikai in Imphal West district by the All Manipur Women’s Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj) and Haobam Marak Keisham Leikai Meira Paibi, Thokchom (o) Ramani, president, Nupi Samaj, said that the calls for re-investigation of the case from various sections are very reasonable.
She also raised questions over the silence of the State Government in regards to the 'Phoudel drug case'.
At the Yaingangpokpi Keithel protest jointly organised by the Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL), Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup (NLANL) and Yaingangpokpi Lamjing Nupi Lup, Yumlembam Memma, president, NLANL, alleged that the State Government's "War on Drugs" initiative has lost its teeth with the recent history of acquittal.
Voicing the same demands, another protest was staged at Kamong Langoljam Community Hall, Imphal West district by AMKIL and Kamong Langoljam Meira Paibi.
Slogans including 'do not demean war on drugs', 'award befitting punishments to drug smugglers' etc were raised at the end of the protest held at various locations.
