Training programme commences

IMPHAL, Mar 24: A 3 day training programme on Harvest and Post Harvest Fisheries for Progressive Farmers of Manipur began on March 22 at Central Agricultural University, (CAU) Lamphelpat organised by Directorate of Research, CAU under the sponsorship of ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Kochi (under CIFT-NEH component).
Speaking on the occasion, Dr S Basanta, director of Research CAU, Imphal said that the food habits of humans have changed drastically worldwide where one depends on processed food majorly starting from young children.
He emphasized on the need to produce value added products from fish  and to generate regular income out of it.
He continued that fish farming/pisciculture is a source of generating profitable income in the State and appealed to all the farmers and especially unemployed youths of the State to take all possible benefits from the various schemes provided by the Government.
Further he also stressed on the need for using water judiciously as most of the major activities of mankind is dependent on the availability of water and urged all to support any such initiatives taken by the Government.
Professor Ratan Kumar, director of Extension Education CAU, Imphal  stated that fish farming should be done on a large scale as the fish produced in the State is not enough for the people of the State.
The programme was also attended by K Mamocha Singh, registrar of CAU Imphal.
