International Women's Day Status of Manipuri women highighted

Social Welfare Minister Okram Henry has stated that the incumbent  Government under the leadership of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, is committed to bringing gender equality and inclusive development in the State.
Addressing International Women’s Day 2021  at JN Manipur Dance Academy as chief guest, Henry wished all the women of the State on the occasion.
Mentioning various welfare schemes introduced by the BJP led Government, the Minister  continued that the Government is looking forward to introducing various programmes and schemes to empower women in the State.
Henry also said that the status of Manipuri women is relatively higher  and 'our society has given due respect and space for women since ages for their active participation in social and political issues.'
However, there is a need for awareness and campaigns about women’s rights and empowerment, he added.
The Minister also commended the role of Manipuri women towards the development of the State. Commissioner of Social Welfare Gyan Prakash recounted the history of women’s movement and struggle for their rights across the world.
He mentioned that Russia was the first country to announce 8th of March as a public holiday and urged the people to put in a collective effort to achieve gender equality. On the occasion, Padma Shri Awardee 2021 Hanjabam Radhe Devi was honoured and felicitated by the dignitaries Chairperson of Manipur State Women’s Development Corporation Limited S Satyabhama Devi, Chairperson of Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Ph Manibabu, Director of Social Welfare Ng Uttam, officials and others were also present.
