IMPHAL, Apr 10 : Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba has announced that 10 per cent of the MP Local Area Development Fund would be earmarked for differently-abled persons.
He was speaking at the opening ceremony of the Divyang Mitra and Netra Kumbh Manipur 2021-22, today at Nupilal complex.
A free eye screening camp for journalists was also held as a part of the function. It is reported that the camp would also be held tomorrow (April 11) at the Manipur Press Club.
Leisemba Sanajaoba continued that other MPs should also put aisde 10 per cent of their local area development fund for the wellbeing of differently-abled persons.
Leishemba, however, stated that the MP fund is suspended for the time being due to the coronavirus crisis.
Saying that the MPLAD Fund might be restored from 2022, he reassured that the promised 10 per cent would be reserved for development works of people with disabilities.
Sanajaoba further stated that he would consult with the Chief Minister and the authority concerned to revive the Blind Hospital which was established by the previous Government and formulate a policy for PWDs in the State.
Pointing out that many persons with disabilities are not aware of the welfare schemes meant for them while many stay isolated from society due to certain fear, the MP appealed to all the PWDs to come out and get the benefits of the schemes and contribute to the Nation-building.
Owner of The Sangai Express and intending candidate for the upcoming Assembly polls from Keishamthong AC, Nishikant Singh Sapam pledged to donate his eyes and appealed to the people to register for eye donation to restore visions of the visually impaired.
He stated that people who are born different are specially-abled as they have the potential to do things that a normal person can't do.
Nishikant also lauded SAKSHAM for their goodwill service and donated Rs 1 lakh to the camp.
The programme being organised by Samadrishti, Kshamata Vikas Evam Anusandhan Mandal (SAKSHAM) would go on throughout the year.
The programme was also attended by BJP Manipur Pradesh president S Tikendra Singh and SAKSHAM, Manipur president Sapam Jasobanta Singh.
