IMPHAL, Apr 12 : XI-Star SU were crowned the champions of the Maharaj Kumar Ghanendrajit Super Division Football as they capped their league campaign with a 7-1 thrashing of SAK, Yumnam Khunou for third win and to finish on top of the league table.
XI-Star SU and ESU amassed the same 11 points from three wins and 2 draws in this 6 team top tier league tournament organised by the Imphal East District Football Association but the Akampat team had the edge on account of superior goal count with respect to the Wangkhei Palace Compound side.
In the tournament's final match, XI-Star SU dominated the game right from the word go and toyed around SAK defence with ease to take a 5-1 first half lead.
Hemson opened the floodgate early in the 9th minute before Joshidash banged in the second goal for XI-Star SU within two minutes.
Before SAK came to realise their weakness, XI-Star SU grabbed their third via Santanu in the 13th minute before Sony and Leishingam pumped in a goal apiece respectively in the 18th and the 40th minute.
SAK however pulled back the consolation goal during the added time of the first half thanks to Dinamani and made it 1-5. After the restart Joshidash had his second in the 63rd minute to make it 6-1. Despite the huge lead, XI-Star kept searching for more goals which gave SAK players no respite and it was Suraj who took honour to fire home the final nail in the 85th minute and completed the 7-1 demolition of SAK.
