Cheiraoba festival celebrated

IMPHAL, Apr 13: Cheiraoba was celebrated at Sanakonung Uttra Shanglen in the presence of titular king Sanajaoba Leishemba today.
At the New Year festival, Leishemba Sanajaoba, who is also a Member of the Parliament said this year is 538th Cheithaba and wished the people on the occasion.
Recalling the history and significance of Cheiraoba, Leishemba said efforts will be put in to preserve the “Tanyeishang” which tells of time in the olden days.
Meanwhile, the New Year festival of the Meetei/Meiteis was celebrated across the State.
Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba which marks the beginning of lunar year was celebrated with traditional gaiety by Meiteis of Moreh town today. Feast were organized in every household and traditional cuisines were offered to the departed forefathers and local deities praying for a prosperous and harmonious year ahead.
