IMPHAL, Apr 25: Fragmentation of Kanglei society into multiple pieces,  disunity, distrust and suspicious nature of each member of the society is another big challenge of contemporary Kangleipak, the KYKL Chairman continued.
Such a situation provides a fertile ground for extermination of a Nation/community.
“We blame ourselves for our disunity and mutual distrust. We blame our genes for our inability to unite together but this is too much. Our mutual distrust and the   fragmentation of society are products of the alien rule”, Oken alleged.
“Had our forefathers been as mean as the present generation and if there was    disunity among themselves  like, Kangleipak would have never existed as a sovereign Nation in South East Asia for 400/500 years and our forefathers would have never succeeded in leaving behind a glorious history”, he asserted.
Oken alleged that it was the alien rule which degenerated the culture and behaviour of Kanglei people.
The fifth major challenge which has the potential to wipe out Kanglei Nation from the surface of Earth is the rampant and extensive abuse of drugs and transformation of Kangleipak (Manipur) as a place for cultivating and manufacturing drugs.
“As we explore the reasons for this disturbing trend, we again blame ourselves. We blame the poverty of hill people for poppy plantation and parents for abusing drugs by youth”, the rebel leader remarked.
However no one has dared to point out how the Indian military forces who are deployed across the length and breadth of Kangleipak have been conveniently overlooking poppy cultivation in hill areas of the State.
Again, it is the alien rule which pushed the youth on the path of rampant drug abuse, Oken alleged.
Quoting an MLA of the ruling party that the drug menace could not be addressed effectively on account of insincerity on the part of some Ministers, MLAs and police officers, the rebel leader alleged that drug manufacturers and dealers have been conniving with some politicians and public leaders.
Saying that ensuring easy availability of drugs is a part of narco-chemical warfare, the KYKL Chairman alleged that the alien rule is the root cause of the drug menace.
Another major challenge of contemporary Kangleipak is the environmental degradation and it  is a product of the alien rule’s negligence and irresponsibility, he said.
The ecological imbalance seen today in Kangleipak is  not a natural process triggered by population growth. It is purely man-made. There is no denying of the fact that Loktak Project severely affected ecological balance apart from pushing a large number of people to a sea of misery, Oken said.
Loktak Project is an instrument of the alien rule and to transform Kangleipak into a desert is one of their major projects, he alleged.
The seventh major challenge is the growth of non-local population and decline of native population.
According to the KYKL Chairman, the incessant influx of non-local people is a strategy of the alien rule.
The entry point concept for any attempt to understand the truths of all these problems and challenges is that “we are living under an alien rule’, Oken continued.
He said that one can understand the reality of contemporary Kangleipak only when he/she see the truths behind the exacerbating poverty, moral degradation, fragmentation of society, degeneration of           politics, negligence of National interests, inter-community conflicts, transformation of Kangleipak into a desert, ever worsening drug menace, decline of native population, transplantation of non-local people etc.
When one sees this reality, one would understand that all the problems and challenges besieging Kangleipak are creations of the alien rule, Oken asserted.
“When our people understand this reality, solution to all the problems and challenges will emerge on its own”, he continued.
Even if the intellectuals and social workers, being common people, cannot criticise and attack the India-Kangleipak relationship at structural level for fear of State repression, it is their bounden duty to critique the relationship at human agency level in order to save the identity of Kanglei people and this can go a long way in ameliorating the immediate problems, Oken concluded.
