Govt signs MoU with Shija Hospitals

IMPHAL, Apr 29 (DIPR): A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been inked between the State Government, Shija Hospitals and Research Institute Private Limited and the Manipur Pollution Control Board for the development of a Common Bio-Medical Waste Treatment and Disposal Facility and a Hazardous Waste Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facility at Lamdeng in Imphal West district.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister N Biren Singh at his Secretariat today. The State Government was represented by Additional Chief Secretary (Forest and Environment) MH Khan, Shija Hospitals Pvt Ltd was represented by its Managing Director Dr Kh Palin and the Manipur Pollution Control Board, by its Member Secretary T Mangi.
The facilities will be set up under the provisions of the Bio-medical Waste Management Rules, 2016 (amended) and the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2016 (amended) respectively. For setting up the facilities, the State Government and Shija Hospital will each bear 25 percent of the total project cost against the budget sanctioned by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India. Shija Hospitals will be solely responsible for the operation and maintenance of the two facilities. The operation and maintenance of the facilities will be closely monitored by the Manipur Pollution Control Board for compliance of the provisions of the Bio-medical Waste Management Rules, 2016 (amended) and the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2016 (amended).
