Land owners decry trespas
Our Correspondent
THOUBAL, May 25: In connection with the ongoing road widening of Imphal Moreh National Highway, the land owners of affected paddy fields from YK College, Wangjing till Uningkhong appealed to the authorities concerned to compensate the owners accordingly before taking their land.
In an online statement, Yumnam Sachi representing the affected landowners stated that joint surveys have been conducted earlier by SDC Khongjom, SDO Thoubal, NHIDCL and GR-Infra Limited regarding the widening of NH 102.
However the agencies involved in the road widening work namely NHIDCL and GR Infra Limited have started dumping of soil and stones in the paddy fields without providing proper compensation to the owners which is unfortunate, he added.
He continued that the land owners are not against the road widening work but it should be done through the proper channel by providing appropriate compensation to the owners and it should  not be carried out in a forceful manner.
If the appeal of the land owners are not heeded, NHIDCL and GR Infra Limited should be held responsible for any untoward outcomes, he added.
