IMPHAL, May 3 : Unknown miscreants opened two rounds of fire at a house in Kyamgei Muslim Takhok Makha under Irilbung police station, Imphal East, yesterday at around 11.10 pm.
According to reports culled from the spot, the house belongs to one Md Moshim (35)-a constable at Manipur police.
The gate of Moshim's house is reportedly riddled with 2 bullet holes, but no one was injured.
Condemning the attack, a sit-in protest was staged today by the locals.
Speaking to journalists, brother of Md Moshim, Shahbuddin urged all responsible for the attack to clarify the motives of their action at the earliest possible.
He said that the gate which was hit by the bullets is common to 5 families (all brothers), including him.
Expressing suspicion that the attacker (s) might be targeting all five of them for personal matters, he confided that there is no monetary demand or intimidation from any underground outfits. He then urged all concerned to refrain from carrying out such intimidation in future. President of BJP Keirao Mandal, H Rajnikanta Meetei, on the other hand, asserted that this is the second attack on workers of the saffron party unit. One among the five brothers is a BJP worker. Similar incidents also occurred on March 21, targeting two BJP supporters - Iphamayum Abdur Rahman and Siraj Anwar of Keirao Makting  Mayai Leikai, he recalled, urging the Government to bring the attacker (s) to book.
