Daily Covid deaths hit record 3,780

India has reported 3,82,315 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the country's overall caseload to 2,06,65,148. With fresh infections, the total active coronavirus cases in the country has mounted to 34,87,229, according to the data released by the Union Health Ministry of Family and Welfare on Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, 3,780 more people succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, taking the Nationwide toll to 2,26,188. This is the highest Covid daily toll India reported since the pandemic began. The maximum casualties were reported in Maharashtra (891), followed by Uttar Pradesh with 351 daily deaths.
Also, a total of 1,69,51,731 have recovered from the infection so far, the Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday morning.
The top five States which have registered the maximum Covid-19 cases in a day are Maharashtra with 51,880 cases, followed by Karnataka with 44,631 cases, Kerala with 37,190 cases, Uttar Pradesh with 25,770 cases and Tamil Nadu with 21,228 cases.
As many as 47.26 per cent of the new cases are reported from these five States, with Maharashtra alone responsible for 13.57 per cent of the new cases.
Coronavirus cases in India have been skyrocketing since February this year. India had crossed the 2-lakh mark in daily cases on April 15, the 3-lakh on April 22 and the 4-lakh mark on Saturday (May 1).
By May 7, India could see the peak of the second wave of coronavirus cases, suggested Prof M Vidyasagar, the Government's Mathematical modelling expert on Covid-19 case predictions.
