IMPHAL, Jun 10 : Condemnations against the grenade attack at the All Manipur Students' Union Headquarters by miscreants on June 8 continue to pour in from various civil and student organisations including the United Peoples' Front (UPF), the All Manipur Manipur Tammi-Chingmi Apunba Nupi Lup, the All Manipur Women's Social Reformation and Development Samaj and others.
The UPF in a statement, expressed strong resentment over the attack on the oldest and largest student body of the State and called on all concerned not to repeat the same in future.
The AMSU was floated subsequent to the historic 'Chaklam Khongchat' on August 27, 1965 and it has been a frontrunner in taking up educational, social and political issues, said the UPF. The student body has been critical of AFSPA and advocating its revocation and many of its members are committed to various movements for social causes including drug issues, demand for ILPS and preservation of territorial integrity of the State, it recalled.
The All Manipur Manipur Tammi-Chingmi Apunba Nupi Lup also condemned the attack at the office of the student body in the strongest term.
The body has been relentlessly campaigning for a better future of the State, it said and maintained that such an attack was very unfortunate.
It also called on all concerned not to repeat such acts in the future. The All Manipur Women's Social Reformation and Development Samaj also said that the act was clearly an attempt to threaten the student body.
Such intimidation to students is extremely reprehensible and should never be repeated, it said.
The United People's Administrative Council, the All Assam Manipuri Students' Union-Central Committee, KHUKYO, the Ereipak Enaat Chanura Loinsinlon (EECHAL) too denounced the grenade attack and appealed all concerned to refrain from using brute force.
