603 new cases 12 deaths r

IMPHAL, Jun 18 : Even as the State Government officially announced that the highly contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus has been detected in Manipur, the State reported 603 new COVID-19 cases and 12 deaths in the last 24 hours.
In a statement, the COVID-19 Control Room said that the Delta variant was detected in 18 cases in the State and added that due epidemiological measures have been taken up. The importance of sticking to Covid Appropriate Behaviour was also stressed.
After a low of 495 positive cases on June 17, Manipur returned to the 600 plus cases per day with 603 persons reporting positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours.
The 603 cases were detected out of 5,842 samples taking the positivity rate to a high of 10.32 percent, which is way above the 5 percent recommended by the World Health Organisation to relax restrictions.
The death count too continued to be in double digits with 12 more deaths reported in the same period.
Imphal West continues to lead the death table with 7, Imphal East (2), Kakching (1), Bishnupur (1) and Churachandpur (1). They passed away at RIMS (4), JNIMS (4), Shija hospital (2), Babina (1) and Churachandpur District Hospital (1).
With 12 more fatalities, the cumulative number of fatalities now stands at 1033.
The 603 persons who tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours included 3 Central security personnel.
The positive persons were tested at RIMS (40), JNIMS (57), District hospitals (329) and other testing centres (177).
The COVID-19 Control Room further said that the positive cases from amongst the 600 general population are from Imphal East (119), Imphal West (187), Thoubal (43), Bishnupur (44), Kakching (58), Ukhrul (27), Churachandpur (78), Chandel (11), Senapati (2), Tamenglong (17), Tengnoupal (1), Kangpokpi (2), Kamjong (1), Noney (2) and Jiribam (8).
Necessary precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, added the COVID-19 Control Room.
On the other hand a total of 447 persons were discharged out of which 324 are from home isolation, 13 from RIMS, 2 from JNIMS and the 108 from other Covid Care Centres.
The recovery rate now stands at 83.67 percent.
The cumulative number of positive cases is 62,946 (general population-59,147 and Central  security personnel-3799). The cumulative number of recovered cases is 52,667 (general population-48,906 and Central security personnel-3761).
The number of active cases is 9,246 (general population-9213 and Central security personnel-33).
A total of 1665 D-Type Oxygen cylinders and 414 B-Type Oxygen cylinders were made available to different health centres across the State.
The total number of persons vaccinated stands at 4,85,122.
