IMPHAL, Jun 25 : The Protection and Preservation Committee, Manipur (PPCM) has urged all involved in electoral politics to refrain from holding events that require gathering/crowding of people during this time of Covid pandemic and at the same time not do anything to deepen the political divide among the people.
A press release issued by PPCM also urged the State Government and the authority concerned to complete the Covid vaccination programme by the first week of July by transferring the responsibility for the same to the respective MLAs of different Assembly Constituencies.
The committee appealed to the people to get vaccinated against coronavirus disease without hesitancy and urged the State Government to complete the construction of the COVID-19 hospital at Langthabal at the earliest.
Saying that health experts predicting that the third wave of COVID-19 will have a serious impact on children is worrying, the PPCM added that the State Government must take preemptive measures 'to make sure our children don't contract the disease (COVID-19).'
PPCM also advised that increasing the number of Community Home Isolation Centres/Covid Care Centres in ACs is also necessary to make sure Covid patients aren't treated at home (home isolation) as far as possible.
Urging the MLAs of the State to form a special team to look after the needs of  non-Covid patients of their ACs, the PPCM urged the State Government to convene an All Political Party meeting to chalk out strategies for fighting COVID-19 collectively.
The committee highlighted that intensifying Covid testing at two entry points - Mao gate and Jiribam is imperative to check the spread of the virus.
Don't allow anyone to enter the State without testing even if they possess Covid negative certificate, it added.
Saying that conforming to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for COVID-19  is critical to defeating the pandemic, the PPCM appealed to the people of Manipur to follow the Covid appropriate behavior advised by WHO, ICMR and experts and enforced by the Government.
