IMPHAL, Jun 26 : Setting her sights clear, newly appointed State unit president of BJP, Adhikarimayum Sarda Devi  has asserted that the immediate task before the party is to work towards the magical figure of capturing at least 40 seats in the next Assembly elections, when Manipur goes to polls early next year.
National BJP president JP Nadda formally named A Sarda Devi as the president of the State unit of BJP. The post has been lying vacant after the death of the then State BJP president S Tikendra who passed away recently due to COVID-19 complications.
A Sarda Devi is a resident of Bhrahmapur Aribam Leikai under Yaiskul Assembly Constituency and she joined the saffron party in 1995 and was elected to the then Imphal Municipal Council from Ward number VII.
The climb within the saffron party continued as Sarda Devi was appointed as the National secretary of the BJP Mahila Morcha in 1997, She actively campaigned for the BJP during the 1998 Mizoram Assembly elections and in recognition of her work there was appointed as the in-charge of the Mahila Morcha of the North East.
Closely associated with the BJP, Sarda also worked as the secretary (administration) of the State unit of the saffron party, as president of the Yuva Morcha, spokesperson of the State unit of the BJP. She also doubled up as the treasurer of the party, occupying important positions in the party for years.
The rise continued as Sarda was soon appointed as the National vice president of the party in 2010, Mahila in charge of North East, president of Mahila Morcha of Delhi Pradesh. Apart from this she also campaigned vociferously for the saffron party at Delhi.
Speaking to media persons at the BJP office at Nityaipat Chuthek today, A Sarda Devi said that she joined the BJP in the firm belief that women can also contribute to Nation building. Women's role is important in political parties, she added.
“Ever since I joined BJP, I have always stuck by its ideology,” added Sarda.
It is only the BJP which is ready give women the space and the position they deserve in a political party, said the newly appointed State unit president of the BJP.
It is my work to strengthen the Mahila wing of the party which brought me recognition from the leaders of the BJP, she said and added, “I have now been given the responsibility of taking the BJP to newer heights in Manipur taking into accounts my work in the party.”
Sarda also acknowledged everyone within the BJP for giving due recognition to her works.
The newly appointed State president of the BJP added that she will continue to work with all the party members and the leaders to resolve issues confronting the State.
Fielding questions from the media, Sarda said that she would work overtime to realise the aspirations of former president of the State BJP, the late S Tikendra to secure at least 40 seats in the next Assembly elections.
