The World Meetei Convention (WMC) has condoled the demise of Dr Yumnam Mohendro Singh, the founding president of Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee of Manipur (STDCM), on July 8 last.
He was 89.
In its condolence message, WMC stated that Dr Mohendro had guided a movement that aimed at saving the Meetei/Meitei  community from extinction.
STDCM under the leadership of Dr Mohendro carried out two mass rallies in Imphal in 2016 and 2019 demanding inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list, the message read.
"Migrants came to Manipur and were included in the Scheduled Tribe  list whereas the original native people were left out. This is painful," WMC quoted Dr Mohendro
Saying the WMC remembers Dr Mohendro as an "Athouba Yelhoumee", the convention prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
