IMPHAL, Jul 14 : The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has decried the delay in release of scholarships for students belonging to different categories and appealed all concerned to disburse the scholarship to the respective beneficiaries (students) at the earliest.
AMSU, in a press release, noted that payment of scholarships to assist students belonging to underprivileged and backward sections in their study has been a perpetual issue for years and AMSU has been constantly approaching departments or authorities concerned to look into the matter.
The student body said that it has come to learn that scholarships have not been released to the students owing to non release of funds from the Finance Department and largely due to errors on the part of students during online registration, the release said.
With correction and submission of related documents through AMSU, scholarships for many students have been approved, it said and continued that students needing assistance in this regard can also contact them.
The backward classes have been hit worst by successive Covid waves and the latter has posed immense financial hurdles to the students from this section as they have to pay admission and examinations fees despite the pandemic situation, AMSU noted and urged the State Government to ensure scholarships to students timely.
The scholarship schemes will not serve its purpose if the scholarships are awarded after the students have finished their studies, it added.
