DLSA Tamenglong organises "Online legal awareness programme'
TAMENGLONG , Jul 17: District Legal Services Authority, Tamenglong organised an "Online legal awareness programme" for Para Legal Volunteers, women organisations, NGOs, local clubs of Tamenglong yesterday.
The awareness programme was conducted on the topic "Whether the rights of the local populace especially women folks are protected and actualized under the Manipur (Village Authorities in Hill Areas Act), 1956".
Meihoubam Rakesh, Director, Human Rights Law Network Manipur attended the programme as a resource person.
The programme began with a welcome address by A Guneshwar Sharma, MJS, District & Sessions Judge, Imphal West cum Chairman DLSA Tamenglong.
During the programme, Meihoubam Rakesh highlighted the importance of establishing village Court provided under the Manipur (Village Authorities in Hill Areas Act), 1956.
He also mentioned that the villagers seldom take any action for the establishment of village Court while adding that even if the court was established, in spite of the provisions for women, no women has ever been elected as a Chairperson.
