Role of Meira Paibi in Manipuri society deliberated

The 35th foundation day of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibee Apunba Manipur was observed in a simple ceremony held at the community hall at Khoyathong Pukhri Achouba Mapal today.
Leaders of meira paibis, women organisations and CSOs paid homage and floral tributes to the late members of Poirei Leimarol, Ima Kombi, RK Randhoni and RK Sanahanbi adhering to Covid SOPs.
Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibee Apunba Manipur was founded on August 25, 1986 and ever since its inception, the Poirei Leimarol have spearheaded important movements concerning violation of human rights by the security forces under the draconian Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), said a press release by the Poirei Leimarol.
Speaking on the occasion, president of Poirei Leimarol, Longjam Memchoubi reiterated the countless contributions of the meira paibis in important issues of the State, the most prominent being the relentless struggles against the numerous cases of human rights violation and fake encounter cases by security forces under the shadow of AFSPA.
With the intervention of meira paibis, such cases have reduced considerably however Manipur is still in a state of restlessness due to many loopholes in one field or the other, she continued.
She called upon all to work earnestly to retain the true identity of meira paibis who are known for their selfless service for the welfare of all without any vested interests and appealed to all concerned especially politicians not to use Meira Paibis as means for political gains.
Longjam Memchoubi also sought support and cooperation from all to strengthen meira paibis and their movements.
In connection with the foundation day, a team of Poirei Leimarol led by its president, went to BB Paul Mental Development Home at Mongshangei and Yaibirel Children Home at Keibi and donated bags of rice, potatoes, edible oil and other edible items.
