AMSU looks back at 56 years journey

Imphal, Aug 28: The All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) observed its 56th foundation day at DM College campus today under the theme "Today’s Challenge, Our Resurgence.”
At the observance, AMSU president Haobijam Chalamba said that Manipur, though once a self reliant Kingdom today can no longer survive on its own, having developed the dependency mindset over the decades.
AMSU was established on August 28, 1965, a day after four persons were killed in the Chaklam Khongchat, he added.
He appealed to every Manipuri to contribute in making Manipur a better society.
Executive director of Human Rights Alert (HRA), Babloo Loitongbam  attended the programme as a guest of honour.
Babloo said that he is extremely proud to see that AMSU is carrying forward the legacy of the students movement for over 50 years.
He also asked if AMSU is ready to face the ever changing political, social and economic challenges of Manipur.
Saying that the issue of non availability of fertilizers in Manipur despite abudant allocation by the Centre is greatly disappointing, Babloo asked where the surplus fertilizers has gone.
Babloo also expressed disappointment over the constant misuse of the National Security Act (NSA) by certain people in power.
Continuing that many immoral individuals including drug dealers have todayt entered politics posing a threat to the very survival of Manipur, Babloo said that a collective response from the public is required to root out such evil and save the society.
Speaking as the chief guest of the observance, former AMSU president Ng Nongyai stated that contribution of all stakeholders is crucial to protect the  territorial integrity of Manipur from various threats.
Nongyai is also a member of Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC).
As a part of the observance, a blood donation camp was held at RIMS and JNIMS. A yearly souvenir of AMSU was also released.
Later, winners of online symposium, painting, recitation and essay competitions which were held in connection with Hunger Marchers' Day were also feted.
