IMPHAL, Aug 31
Manipur Peace & Integrity (MAPI) Council earnestly appealed to all private banks, micro finance organisations and money lenders to refrain from taking interests from the loanees until and unless the Covid situation is stable in the State.
MAPI Council in a press release stated that the people of the State have been worst hit by the ongoing pandemic and general public are still struggling to sustain themselves though the Covid situation has slightly improved.
However the Covid positivity rate is still high in the State reaching upto around 10 percent and above daily and the situation is still critical though the State Government has eased the curfew and restrictions considering the worsening economic condition, added the statement.
MAPI Council maintained that the Government has allowed shops, street vendors etc to open on rotational basis  only and businesses have not resumed completely and the  people are finding it difficult to make ends meet.
Above all, there is still a fear of the possible outbreak of the third wave of COVID-19 which may add more woes to the already existing hardships, continued the statement.
The Council expressed discontent that amid such trying times, the private banks, micro finance organisations and money lenders are being inconsiderate towards the affected people and have started taking interests forcibly.
Stating that if such situation still persist, it may lead to a chaotic state where the poor and needy will lead a deplorable, MAPI Council sought the attention of the Government and to address the issue in the interest of all.
Therefore in view of such difficult situation, MAPI Council appealed to all concerned to refrain from taking any form of interest or amount from the loanees.
