Farmers protest

Farmers of Wangoo area under Sugnu AC staged a protest at Lourong Konjin in Wangoo today, demanding adequate supply of fertilizers within three days.
At the protest site, the farmers appealed to the Chief Minister to deliver the assurance he had given to supply adequate fertilizer to the farmers within a week time in the recent Monsoon session of Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Speaking to the media, one of the farmers Thoudam Dhamen said the 938 applications along with the requisite documents have been submitted by the farmers to District Administration Kakching, but even after a week, there is no response from the authorities.
Due to scanty rainfall, farmers had already spent a lot of money in irrigating the fields, but there is no fertilizers when it is needed, he rued.  
Dhamen questioned if the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to double the income of farmers by 2022 is just an empty talk.  He also appealed to the Government to effectively implement irrigation schemes so that the farmers don't have to rely on the monsoon alone.
