IMPHAL, Sep 15: Extreme caution and care should be exercised during the upcoming election for 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly which is slated to be held in early part of 2022 in view of the impending third wave of the pandemic.
Speaker Y Khemchand made the remark during the closing ceremony of Community Covid Care Centre opened at Manipur College and appealed to the public and politicians to work towards making sure that the election is not converted into a 'festival' in view of the third wave of the pandemic which has been predicted by experts.
He informed the public that the Community Covid Care Centre was run by COVID-19 Helpline Singjamei since May 5 and another centre was also opened at Chingamakha High School.
Altogether 1042 Covid patients were successfully treated with no fatalities at the centres which were looked after by 10 doctors, 4 nurses and more than 100 volunteers including women, he added.
The centres were run without funds from the Government with donations from friends and well wishers but the Health Department did extend assistance in running the centres, he added.
The Speaker lauded the efforts of the doctors, nurses and the volunteers who work selflessly during the pandemic.
The program was also attended by L Lokeshwor, former Mayor of IMC and Corporators of ward number 15 and 16.
