Manipur Gorkha Welfare Union elects new office bearers

KANGPOKPI, Sep 26: The Manipur Gorkha Welfare Union (MGWU), apex body of Manipuri Gorkhas on Sunday elected new office bearers during an election held at Charhajare community hall in Kangpokpi District.
The election was conducted by a five member Committee consisting of Deepak Pantha, secretary Nepali Sahitya Parishad Manipur; Gopilal Chauhan, advisor All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union; LB Adhikari, president All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union; Dr Harikrishna Shiwakoti and Ghanashyam Acharya under Laxmi Bista, president Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh, Manipur State Branch as chairperson.
It was also participated by members of Gorkha civil society organizations such as All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union, Nepali Sahitya Parishad Manipur, MGYA and representatives from all Gorkha villages.
During the event, Hari Nepal, a veteran Gorkha social worker from Kangpokpi District was elected as president of the Gorkha's apex body in Manipur today .
Surya Bantawa Rai was elected as a working president while Saran Mainali, Man Kumar Thapa and Sandesh Pathak were elected as vice presidents.
The meeting also elected Ghanashyam Koirala as general secretary, Sitaram Kafle and Ganesh Gurung as joint secretaries.
Other new office bearers elected during the election were Dharmin Khatiwoda (administration secretary); Sagar Bastola (organization secretary); Rudra Pokhrel (treasurer) and Vigyan Koirala (information and publicity secretary).
The representatives of all the Gorkha organizations congratulated the newly elected office bearers of its apex body and expressed hope that they will work and serve the society and the Gorkha's community living in different parts of the State in particular.
