Assam top medal tally as KIO NE Zone Karate Championship concludes

IMPHAL, Jan 9 : Assam produced a dominating show to amass a huge tally of 144 medals including 42 gold, 40 silver and 62 bronze as the  KIO North East Zone Karate Championship hosted by Manipur Amateur Karate-Do Association here at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium concluded today.
 Hosts Manipur finished second in this 5 State event with a total of  29 gold, 27 silver and 48 bronze medals.
The last day saw Assam's Biplop Peg win cadet boys' 63 kg Kumite title beating Chingkheinganba of Manipur in the final. Namsai Baghi of Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur's Ng Pompom finished third and fourth to settle for bronze medal in this category.
Other players who earned Assam gold medals are Norutam Gowala (junior boys -61 kg), Anupam Bhowic (junior boys +76 kg), Nishad Ali (senior girls -53 kg), Manshu P Kashyap (senior male -84 kg), Sristy Devi (8 yrs girls kata), Mrigyanee Das (senior male -55 kg, U-21 yrs female -55 kg), Basha Rani Deka (cadet girls -54 kg), Manashree Roy (9 yrs girls Kata), Nishad Ali (U-21 yrs Male -75 kg), Ayushi Das (10 yrs girls kata), Chinmoi Ciyon Saikia (11 yrs boys Kata), Washima Akhter (12 yrs girls Kata), JD Sharma Deka (11 yrs girls Kata), Hrishita Kashyap (13 yrs girls Kata), Zian Choudhury (13 yrs boys Kata), Jintu Moni Ali (9 yrs boys -20 kg), Chinmoy Ciyon Saikia (11 yrs boys -30 kg), Ankur Borah (13 yrs boys -40 kg), Katrina Topno (8 yrs girls -20 kg), Siramita Choudhury (9 yrs girls +23 kg), Mousumi Kalindi (9 yrs girls -23 kg), Sejal Choudhury (8 yrs girls +20 kg), Sirasmita Choudhury (9 yrs girls +23 kg), Bastap Jyoti Deka (12 yrs boys -35 kg), Jaydi Deka Sarma (11 yrs girls +35 kg), Ragjyoti Konwar (10 yrs boys -25 kg), Khyati Bordoloi (10 yrs girls -30 kg), Ankita Boro (10 yrs girls -25 kg), Irfan Habib (12 yrs boys -40 kg), Dhiraj Borah (12 yrs boys +40 kg), Ghanashyam Borgohain (10 yrs boys -30 kg) and Niharika Hati (12 yrs girls -35 kg).
Meanwhile karatekas who earned Manipur gold medals in the Kumite event held today day are Ch Priya (cadet girls -47 kg), M Joychandra Singh (senior male -60 kg), Md Muktar Abaz (junior boys -68 kg), H Hemson (junior boys -76 kg), L Merika Devi (junior girls -48 kg), Kh Roshni Chanu (junior girls -59 kg), Chanam Rimson (senior male +84 kg), Suraj Singh (U-21 male -60 kg), L Premjit Singh (U-21 male -67 kg), Narendra (U-21 +84 kg), Th Surajit (U-21 male -60 kg), Sunraj (U-8 boys +20 kg), Kh Alex (8 yrs boys +20 kg), Kh Chanu (U-8 yrs girls +20 kg), Md Sahid Khan (9 yrs boys +23 kg), Kh Nawaz Sarif (12 yrs boys +45 kg), Purnima (11 yrs -35 kg), Treaty M (13 yrs girls -45 kg) and Md Samir Khan (10 yrs boys +30 kg).
On the other hand, Langanbi Soram (U-8 girls), MK Subhan Saha (8 yrs boys), K Arya (9 years boys), Md Washim Akram (10 yrs boys) and Kh Arbash (12 years boys) won Manipur gold medals in kata events of their respective age groups.
The closing ceremony of the zonal event was graced by Sh Nabachandra Sharma, co-ordinator Art and Culture,  Government of Manipur; Kirankumar Thangjam, president KIO, North East Zone Karate Federation; Thokchom Saratchandra, co-convenor Medical Cell, BJP Manipur and Renshi Nagen Bongjang, general secretary, KIO-North East Zone as presidium members who also gave away prizes to the winners and participants.
