IMPHAL, Jan 11 : Stating that there is no trace of online classes and exams being conducted in Government schools for students from class I-VIII, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has appealed to Department of Education (S) to promote these students to the next higher class to ensure the commencement of a new academic session without any hiccups.
The statement was made during a press conference held at Kwakeithel DESAM Office by Thounaojam Somol Singh, Education & Affairs secretary DESAM.
Th Somol remarked that in private schools, online classes and exams continue to be conducted despite the pandemic for students from class I-VIII, however, the story is quite different in case of Government schools.
He questioned the fate of Government school students of class I to VIII and stated that their academic careers are in jeopardy.
Th Somol asserted that there should not be any differences in the academic calendars of private and Government schools. Further, he expressed surprise over the silence of the Department of Education (S) under such precarious circumstances.
Th Somol appealed to the Department of Education (S) and the State Govt to assess the matter concerning these students and take up appropriate measures to grant them promotion and secure their academic careers.
Th Somol also appealed to the authorities concerned to  look into the matter of inadequate teaching staff in Government schools of the State.
