IMPHAL, Jan 16 : The All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO) has expressed despair that the polling date of the first phase of the upcoming State Assembly election falls on a Sunday (February 27) and added that it has hurt the religious sentiments of the Christians.
In a statement, AMCO questioned if the Government is deliberately attempting to desacralize the religious significance of the day as Sunday is a sacred day set aside for worship and reverence of God.
The Organization also expressed apprehension that a large number of voters may refrain from exercising their right to vote owing to this.
As such, AMCO appealed to the Election Commission to reschedule the first phase polling  date to show solidarity and respect to the religious sentiments of the Christian community.
The statement further said that this move to undermine and desacralize the religious beliefs of the Christians was uncalled for.
