Huge cache of arms and ammos recovered

IMPHAL, Jan 18 : A combined team of Bishnupur district commandos and a column of 36 Assam Rifles recovered arms and ammunition kept concealed at Khoijumantabi Makha Leikai Ching this morning.
Acting on specific input regarding suspected hideouta of underground cadres at Khoijumantabi Makha Leikai Ching and Napat area, a combined team of Bishnupur district commandos and a column of 36 Assam Rifles under the command of M Roni, Additional SP Operation, led by Y Shakti Shen, OC Bishnupur commando and under the supervision of N Herojit, SP Bishnupur, rushed to the spot and carried out a massive search operation.
During the search operation, the team recovered and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition by observing the necessary formalities.
The recovered arms and ammunition include one M-16 Rifle made in USA, one SLR, one 7.62 modified Rifle, one Chinese hand grenade, one I-COM set (IC-V87) along with set charger, one 5.56 M-16 magazine, two 7.62 magazine, four 5.56 M-16 ammunition, eight 7.62 SLR ammunition and three 7.62 AK ammunition. The recovered arms and ammunition have been handed over to Kumbi police station for further necessary action, according to sources.
On the other hand Joupi and Phundrei Battalions of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) in a joint operation with Manipur police foiled a major attack by recovering an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near Kuljang village in Chandel district yesterday.
Based on specific inputs, troops of Assam Rifles along with Manipur police launched an operation which led to timely identification and disarming of the IED by the bomb disposal squad, said a statement issued by PRO Assam Rifles.
The IED was meant to target the movement of local populace as well as the security forces along the Sugnu-Joupi road.
After sanitisation of the area, the recovered IED was destroyed on the spot itself for ensuring security in the area and prevention of any loss to life or property.
