Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) has urged the Kabui Customary Council to refrain from issuing baseless and unfounded statements in regard to "Gaan Ngai'' festival.
In a release, Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) informed that the only difference between Zelirangrong and Kabui or any nomenclatures pertaining to Zeliangrong community is only about being recognized or unrecognized as separate tribes by the Government.
"Although Zeliangrong is not recognised as a separate tribe as of now, it is an undeniable fact that Zeliangrong is a group of people originated from common ancestry which was already proved beyond question by the Anthropological Survey of India", it added.
Zeliangrong Baudi continued that Gaan Ngai festival is one of the inherent festivals of Zeliangrong people for which the State Government had already recognized it as a State festival.
It stated that religion is a choice for any individual but one's root and origin is not a choice therefore the apprehension of Kabui Customary Council that Kabui may be wiped out is not relevant to Zeliangrong community.
"Kabui will be there as long as Zeliangrong exists as Kabui is inseparable from Zeliangrong", it asserted.
Stating that Zeliangrong is one of the largest tribal groups in the North Eastern Region of India, Zeliangrong Baudi then advised the Kabui Customary Council to not worry for the future of Kabui which is a Zeliangrong.
"The Kabui Customary Council should not drag the name of Union Minister of State, RK Ranjan Singh and Speaker of Manipur State Assembly, Y Khemchand Singh who had sent out their greetings and message for Gaan Ngai festival after knowing well of the origin of Kabui which is inseparable from Zeliangrong", said Zeliangrong Baudi.
