Martyrs' Day

Manipur joined the Nation in observing Shaheed Diwas or Martyrs’ Day today on the 74th death anniversary of the father of the Nation- Mahatma Gandhi.
On this day, India paid homage to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives to free India from the oppressive British regime.
Governor La Ganesan led the people in paying homage by laying a wreath to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Memorial Hall in Imphal.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar Singh, Education Minister S Rajen Singh, MLA N Indrajit Singh, Chief Secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar, DGP P Doungel and top civil and police officials also laid wreaths to the statue. A two minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the departed freedom fighters.
Mahatma Gandhi’s favorite devotional song  “Raghubati Raghav Raja Ram” was also sung on the occasion.
