Indian Catholic Youth Movement, North East Ram Muivah bats for power of youth

IMPHAL, Oct 23: Ukhrul AC MLA Ramnganing Muivah has called for unleashing the power of the Catholic youths in the North East region to transform the society.
He was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the 4th regional youth convention of Indian Catholic Youth Movement North East (ICYM NE) which began today at the premises of Catholic School, Canchipur, Imphal on "Christ is alive and He wants you to be alive".
The convention is being organized by ICYM North Eastern Regional Youth Commission (NERYC) and hosted by Manipur Catholic Youth Organisation (MYCO).
Citing Iranian Revolution where the Pahlavi dynasty was overthrown and All Assam Students Union (AASU)’s movement on foreigners issue as clear evidences of youths’ power, the MLA went on to observe that the Catholic youths in North East States must unleash their power to bring changes in the society.
He also encouraged the Catholic youths in the North East region to enter politics as 'politicians play crucial roles in transforming society and as the number of Catholic people holding high profile posts like Chief Minister is very limited in the region.’
The MLA decried that the population of Christianity in the country has plummeted to a meagre 2.2 percent.
While claiming that entrepreneurship is also an important driving force to transform the society, Ramnganing Muivah asked the Catholic youths to take up entrepreneurial works to take the Catholic society to greater heights.
He further advised the youths to lay special emphasis on digital technology.
Additional Chief Secretary Letkhogin Haokip who attended the function as guest of honour stressed on the importance of highlighting and generating awareness about the humanitarian works being carried out by the Catholic society.
DD Archbishop of Imphal Reverend Dominic Lumon, National Youth Director of the Catholic Church Father Chetan Machado and MSFS, Regional Youth Director North East Father John Barman also attended the function as special guest and important functionaries of the convention respectively.
Catholic youths from different States of North East region showcased different cultural items during the inaugural function of the convention which will conclude on October 26.
