Ukhrul, Oct 30 : Deputy Commissioner Ukhrul, Krishna Kumar on Saturday handed over relief materials to the bereaved families of Poi village who were drowned to death on October 24 at Thorilu stream near Challou river.
Krishna Kumar along with SDO Ukhrul, Maibam Suranjoy Singh visited the victims' family and interacted with them.
Relief items were handed over to the families during a simple function held in the presence of Assam Rifles, village elders and relatives.
The DC assured that the District Administration would provide all possible assistance to the victims' families.
It may be mentioned that on October 24, two women of Poi village, RS Ngamreila (30), w/o RS Varechung and RK Ramreila (35), w/o RK Mathotmi were swapped away by the swift current while crossing the stream "Thorilu" near Challou river due to sudden outburst of rain in the Raphei area of Ukhrul district.
The body of Late RK Ramreila was spotted on the 5th day of intense operation from the downstream of Challou river at New Tusom village area and was immediately retrieved.
The body of RS Ramreila is still missing.
