Hmar community's post harvest festival 'Sikpui Ruoi' celebrated

IMPHAL, Dec 12: 'Sikpui Ruoi', the indigenous post-harvest festival of the Hmar community was celebrated today at the auditorium of the Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Chingmeirong.
The celebration was organised by the Organising Committee Imphal Hmar Sikpui Roui 2022 formed by Hmar Inpui Imphal region; Hmar Youth Association; Hmar Women Association; Hmar Students' Association and Hmar Artiste Association of Imphal Headquarters.
Members of Hmar communities of different villages across the State participated in today's event which was marked by  different cultural and traditional performances of the Hmar community.
Speaking at the occasion, Imphal Hmar Sikpui Roui 2022 Chairman , Lalbuotsai Zote said that the Sikpui Ruoi, one of the most significant festivals of the Hmar community has been celebrated since time immemorial.
However the same could not be celebrated over the past two years due to COVID-19 pandemic.
He further appealed to the State Government to declare this day as a holiday so that the festival can be celebrated in a grand way as done in other neighbouring States.
Regarding the above request, a memorandum was already submitted to the Chief Minister in 2018, he added.
