IMPHAL, Dec 30 : Manipur University (MU) women's team secured second position in the East Zone Inter University Badminton Championship hosted by OP Jindal University, Raigarh in Chhattisgarh from December 27.
With the result, the team qualified for the All India Inter Zonal Inter University Badminton C'ship 2022-23 to be held at Lovely Professional University, Phagwara from January 22 to 25, 2023 and 3rd Khelo India University Games 2022-23 to be held in four cities of Uttar Pradesh.
The team comprising H Vilinda of Biramangol College, L Diana Devi of Mangolnganbi College, M Priya of SSG Girls' College and L Sheetal of Biramangol College had a swift campaign winning six back to back matches before losing 0-2 to Adamas University, Kolkata in the final.
The MU team kicked off their campaign with a 2-0 win over SMK University, Bastar, Chhattisgarh and won 2-1 against KIIT Bhubaneswar; 2-0 against BHU, Varanasi; 2-0 against Dibrugarh University, Assam; 2-1 against defending champions VBSP University, UP before sealing a 2-1 win against Pt Ravishankar Shukla University, Chhattisgarh in the semi-final.
H Vilinda was also adjudged best player at the zonal competition, said Assistant Director of Sports, MU in a statement.
The team was led by L Robel Singh of Department of Sports MU, it said.
The Vice Chancellor and members of MU Sports Committee also congratulated the badminton team on their achievement, the statement continued.
