IMPHAL, Feb 13 : The World Meetei Council (WMC) has said that Silchar-Aizawl National Highway will be blocked for 12 hours on February 21 if Mizoram Chief Minister fails to hand over the case relating to the suspicious death of one Manipuri and the suicide of another in police custody to CBI or NIA by Feb 21.
Heigrujam Nabashyam, chairman WMC said this at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club today and added that tanker driver Keisham Prabin from Balrampur village in Cachar district, Assam went to Aizawl along with Namram Nipen from the same locality on January 30.
However, Prabin was found dead in a suspicious manner the next day and the police had arrested Nipen as the main suspect.
After locals protested against the arrest of Nipen, the Silchar SP had assured that Nipen will be brought back to Silchar before February 14 but as it happened, the family was informed that he had committed suicide on February 8 inside Mizoram jail where he was being remanded under Judicial custody, he added.
WMC had also sent letters to Chief Ministers of Mizoram, Assam and Manipur to deliver justice to the deceased families.
