Student hurt in pre-poll violence at Kumbi

BISHNUPUR, Feb 22: A 23 year old student was injured in a pre-poll violence last night around 11.45 at Wangoo Terakhong Mayai Leikai in Kumbi AC under the jurisdiction of Kumbi police station.
The injured person has been identified as Meisnam Heramani s/o Meisnam Chandrababu of Wangoo Terakhong GP, Ward No 8, polling station 29/27.
The 23 year old student has been admitted to Raj Medicity for treatment.
Speaking about the incident, Meisnam Chandrababu alleged that 4/5 persons suspected to be workers of JD (U) candidate Ahanthem Shanjoy Singh brutally assaulted his son and caused damage to the BJP flags and posters on his property.
He stated that the assailants carried many dangerous weapons, including a shovel and raised life threats.
Meisnam Chandrababu and his wife were at a nearby shop when these miscreants showed up and entered his property and proceeded to attack his son mercilessly, he alleged.
The aggrieved father has urged the authorities concerned to look into the matter to ensure that peace prevails in Wangoo Terakhong.
One M Mala Devi from Wangoo Terakhong Mayai Leikai also stated that residents of the locality had been robbed of their peace of mind owing to such instances of 'goondaism' and appealed for appropriate security measures to be enforced in the area to put an end to such incidents.
BJP candidate of Kumbi AC, Sanasam Premchandra inspected the scene this morning and condemned the attack calling it an act of cowardice.
He advised people to denounce the the culture of grabbing power through threats and attacks and instead respect the principles of a democratic, free and fair election.
