Legal awareness programme held

THOUBAL, Feb 24
District Legal Services Authority, Thoubal under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) organised a one day legal awareness programme at Swadhar Home, Wangbal on the "Violence against women & Domestic Violence Act, 2005", today.
The event was attended by Binny Ngangom, chairperson DLSA Thoubal; Bineshwori Maibam, secretary DLSA Thoubal and Babita Sapam, secretary Rural Voluntary Service as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Binny Ngangom expressed her concern over the number of domestic violence cases in Thoubal district.
She also stressed on the need for awareness on Domestic Violence act and its provisions.
M Swami Singh, Advocate elucidated the abuses and exploitation of Domestic Violence Act by recounting various instances.
He also enlightened the participants on how to correctly utilize the Domestic Violence Act against abusive husbands, in-laws in the context of Manipuri society.
Later, pamphlets containing Section 12 eligibility and how to get legal aid & advice were also distributed to the participants..
The event was participated by about 20 inmates of Swadhar Home, Wangbal.
