Six held for poll violence

IMPHAL, Mar 6 : Tengnoupal police have registered a suo moto case against six NPF workers for destroying an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and threatening polling officials at 42/42 Rilram Centre under Tengnoupal Assembly Constituency yesterday at around 3.45 pm.
Reportedly, about 30-40 supporters of NPF barged into the polling station and  obstructed the poll officials from performing their assigned duties. They also destroyed an EVM.
The security personnel detained six of them while trying to flee after creating the scene and handed them over to Tengnoupal police.
The case was registered against KJ Kopham (25), S/o KJ Moshel of Leibi village; Mothil Kansouwa (35), S/o Morong Kansouwa of Kharou Khunou; KT Koching Maring (26), S/o KT Morung of Leibi village; K Merungkham Maring (22) S/o (L) Peter of Leibi village; Ch Meran (39), S/o Menai of Leibi village and K Prakash Maring (45), S/o (L) Kadou of Leibi village.
The Duty Magistrate Chandel has remanded the six accused to four days police custody till March 9.
