BISHNUPUR, Apr 13 : In a bid to revive and popularise the indigenous game of "Mukna Kangjei" which is inseparable to Moirang Kangleirol, an exhibition match of Mukna Kangjei was organised by Keke Moirang Kangleirol Kanba Lup today at Moirang Chengei Lampak.
The match which drew hundreds of spectators was played between two Panas/ teams- Khunthak and Khunkha where in the two sides fielded 10 players each.
The players were also feted with prizes and accolades sponsored by various personalities.
As a part of the programme which was graced by Langthabal AC MLA, Karam Shyam; Moirang AC MLA Thongam Shanti; social worker Th Brinda; Chingu Khundrakpa Salam Achouba among others, the art of making fire "Meiba Houba" of Kabui community was also demonstrated today.
Speaking at the occasion, K Shyam noted the historical significance of "Mukna Kangjei".
"To popularise or make indigenous games or our culture known to the world, we need to preserve and promote our games and our culture first," said K Shyam.
"We can carve out a niche of our own only when the communities dwelling in the State join hands to preserve and promote our culture and indigenous games," he added.
Moirang AC MLA, meanwhile said that the organisation of such a match was itself a big achievement and reasonable.
The very move of the organisations who are dedicated towards preserving the heritage of Moirang and things inseparable to it is quite laudable and should be further emphasised, he said while praising for bringing back the indigenous games alive after three generations of Moirang residents.
