Shot in the arm for Sanamahism Comic actors convert to indigenous faith

IMPHAL, Apr 20 : Celebrated comic actors Laishram Rangilal and Longjam Rajen who is better known as Happy Rajen have  converted to Sanamahism today during a function held in the presence of titular king and Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba at Haying Khongbal Uphong Yumfam at 1st MR complex.
At the function, Leishemba Sanajaoba said  that the population of Meetei/Meitei will not exceed 20 lakhs even by counting those who have been settling outside the State such as in Assam, Tripura, Myanmar and Bangladesh among others.
Saying that "saving our culture and identity lies entirely on us," the titular king stated the decision taken by the two comedians  who are known by many throughout the State to save the rich  culture and heritage of Manipur deserve utmost appreciation.
Clarifying that the two comedians, by joining Sanamahism, doesn't mean one religion is superior to others, he expressed hope that more people will join Sanamahism and play a key role in saving the custom and tradition of the Meiteis/Meeteis.
Notably, another noted comedian Sougrakpam Hemanta, popularly known as Oja Tolhal, and Shumang Leela artist Yumnam Nilachandra had earlier converted to Sanamahi faith.
Hemanta stated that saving Meetei/Meitei is indispensable to save Shumang Leela as the traditional form of theatre is being  played in Manipuri language.
Saying that there is unique beauty in every language and saving the Meetei/Meitei ethnic group is imperative to safeguard  Manipur, he opined that the heritage, legend, culture, custom, myth, folklore of Manipur will flourish when more people convert to Sanamahism.
"How can we trace our history without understanding the way  of life of our forefathers," the comedian asked and added, "it is time for every Meitei/Meitei to do their bit in strengthening the ethnic group."
